Our OCIA cycle begins in the fall with sessions on Sundays here on the campus of St. Matthew. The English language class meets at 9:00 am. The Spanish language class meets at 11 am.
Regular Attendance Participants are to attend all classes. During this time of learning and discovery we also expect the participants to attend regular Sunday worship. By attending regular worship, one begins to learn the prayers, hear and reflect on the gospel, and begin to bond with the community.
What Happens during the Sessions? Early in the program we ask a lot of questions and we get answers because non-Catholics are frequently misinformed. We also pray a lot because we need to learn to relate to God as a friend with whom we communicate frequently. All that is filled in with religious songs, friendly conversation and food
You Are Free! We promise that we will not apply pressure on anyone to become Catholic, and we do not threaten anyone. You joined freely and you may leave freely. We do ask, however, that if you decide to leave, tell the OCIA Coordinator. Don’t just disappear!
A Call to Serve As you begin to feel a part of Saint Matthew community, we want you to look at the world beyond the walls of this church. We are called to minister and volunteer in at least one outreach ministry of the parish. This not only provides an opportunity for direct contact with other members of the parish, but also shapes and forms participants in the mission of the Church in the world.
Sponsors During the OCIA process you should pray and socialize with a sponsor. These people are not catechists or teachers, but they are spiritual friends who will help you throughout the process, especially with prayers.
